Houston -- Waste Management Inc. (WMI) has announced the appointments of Cherie Rice as vice president and treasurer and Jimmy LaValley as senior vice president of people.

Since 1998, Rice has worked as WMI’s vice president of investor relations. She will be responsible for the company’s overall banking and treasury functions and will report to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer David Steiner.

LaValley joined Waste Management in February 2001 as vice president of human resources and recruiting. He now will develop human resources functions, including compensation, benefits, and recruitment activities, and will report to Executive Vice President, Operations Support and Chief Administrative Officer for Waste Management Larry O’Donnell.
