Atlanta –- Waste Management of Georgia (WMI) has filed a Petition for Judicial Review with the Cobb County Superior Court in response to an administrative judge’s recent order that requires Live Oak Landfill to close in Dec. 2004. WM also moved to stay the judge’s ruling to continue operations during the judicial process. Live Oak was required to close its doors after it was cited for environmental infractions. However, according to WMI’s Atlanta Market Area Vice President Brad Gardner, the Georgia Environmental Protection Department had given the facility an overall compliance rating of approximately 95 to 100 percent for 10 years.
Live Oak accepts waste from approximately 120,000 residential, public and commercial outlets, servicing 85 percent of the metro-Atlanta area.
