Three Million Funds E-Waste Research

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Allan Mollohan, D-W.Va., has obtained $3 million in new funding for a high-tech recycling initiative. The program, Mid-Atlantic Recycling Center for End-of-Life Electronics (MARCEE), will finance electronics recycling research. Mollohan has noted that an economically feasible way to recover plastic components in computers has not been devised. The program will enable West Virginia University and the Polymer Alliance Zone to research new polymer separation technologies and develop new uses for recycled plastic.

As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, Mollohan placed $3 million in the Energy Department’s 2004 appropriations bill, which President Bush has signed.
