Rechargeable Batteries Recycled

Atlanta -- The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) has announced recycling more than 4 million pounds of rechargeable batteries from the United States and Canada in 2003, which represents an increase of 22 percent from 2002. Rechargeable batteries power electronics such as cellular and cordless phones, digital cameras, laptop computers, portable DVD and CD players, and PDAs.

The company works in cooperation with retailers, businesses and communities to establish recycling drop-off points. Participants have included national companies: Best Buy, The Home Depot, RadioShack, Sears, Staples, Target and Wal-Mart. According to RRBC Executive Vice President Ralph Millard, the company has recycled more than 21.9 million pounds of rechargeable batteries since 1995.
