NYC Collects 100,000 Christmas Trees
New York – The New York Department of Sanitation collected an estimated 100,000 trees from Jan. 5 to Jan. 10 during its annual Christmas Tree Recycling program. The compost made from discarded trees will be used throughout the city in parks, playing fields and community gardens. In 2002, the city offered limited collection because of budget constraints.
