Horizon Waste To Cut 118 Jobs

Honolulu -- Horizon Waste Services Inc. has notified the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations that it will close its Kapolei operations on June 24, causing the loss of 91 jobs. Valley Isle Disposal Inc. of Kahului, Maui, also plans to eliminate 24 positions when it shutters its operations on June 24. The business closings are being made because Horizon is transferring its assets to Honolulu Waste Disposal Service/Alii Refuse. Valley Isle did not indicate the reason for its closing, but referred questions to Honolulu Disposal, according to

. Honolulu Disposal is Hawaii's largest commercial waste hauler. Commercial haulers manage approximately 65 percent of Honolulu's refuse.
