EPA Diesel Initiative Gets Stringent on Non-Road Vehicles

Washington D.C. -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed an emissions reduction initiative for non-road diesel engines used in construction, agricultural and industrial equipment. The national program will require stringent engine controls and reductions of sulfur in diesel fuel. The Diesel Technology Forum (DTF) Executive Director Allen Schaeffer said that in spite of the fact that non-road diesel emissions account for less than 1 percent of particulate matter (PM) emissions, 7 percent of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, and less than 1 percent of carbon monoxide emissions from all sources, non-road emission standards policy has been more dramatic than on-road emission policy.
