Madawaska, Maine – Garbage trucks that had been denied entry into Canada from Maine earlier this week have been allowed to cross the border. When mad cow disease was discovered in Washington state, Canada’s federal agriculture agency imposed restrictions on beef imports and caused a crackdown on U.S. garbage trucks, some of which were turned away.
"[Trucks] were turned back because of unidentified products which may have been in the loads," Doug Shackell, a Canada Customs spokesman told the Associated Press. However, when trucks cross the border today, it will not be necessary to certify each loads' content.
