SCS Energy to create and operate facility for landfill gas conversion

Sonoma County, Calif. recently awarded a multi-year contract to Long Beach, Calif.-based SCS Energy to develop and operate a facility that will convert landfill gas to compressed natural gas. According to a report released by the company, the compressed natural gas will be used to fuel buses operated by the Sonoma County Transit system. The new facility plans to meet California Air Resources Board vehicle fuel standards by removing impurities and carbon dioxide from the landfill gas. Although the project is only the second of its kind in the U.S., it is the first landfill gas to compressed natural gas conversion that will fuel buses.
