Landfill in Georgia Rejected
Atlanta -- The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has denied Complex Environmental, a development company, the rights to build a more than 1,000-acre landfill in Taliaferro County, Ga. With Atlanta’s Live Oak landfill closing in 2005, a refuse facility in Taliaferro may have been a candidate location to receive the metropolitan area’s trash. The permit for the proposed site was rejected because of inconsistencies with the local solid waste plans. Three county commissioners were jailed late last year to avoid signing a letter stating that the project met zoning regulations, news sources state.
