EPA to Fund Methane-Capture Projects in 11 Countries

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that, through its Methane to Markets Partnership, it will fund 21 projects to help 11 countries capture methane emissions and use the gas to produce energy. The sources of methane emissions include landfills, and coal, agriculture, oil and natural gas operations.

Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Colombia, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Phillipines, Poland and Russia will receive grants ranging from $20,000 to $700,000 for LFGTE projects.

The Methane to Markets Partnership is a public-private partnership that seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting the cost-effective recovery of methane and the conversion of the gas into energy.
