Wisconsin's Imported Trash Continues to Decline

For the second straight year, the amount of garbage trucked into Wisconsin from out of state and dumped in its landfills has declined. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that a state official attributes the decrease to higher gas prices and an increased market value for recyclables.

Statistics from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources show the state received 1.9 million tons of trash in 2006, down from 2.1 million tons in 2005 and 2.2 million tons in 2004.
