Waste Management Partners for LNG Facility
Houston-based Waste Management (WM) has partnered with Linde North America to develop a facility that will convert landfill gas from the Altamont Landfill near Livermore, Calif., into liquefied natural gas (LNG). The facility is expected to open in 2009 and produce 13,000 gallons of LGN per day. The LGN will be used to fuel collection trucks in the area.
“This project has the potential to allow us to tap into a valuable source of clean energy while greatly reducing our dependence on fossil fuels,” said Duane Woods, senior vice president for the western group of Waste Management, in a press release. “This will be the largest plant of its kind, and we hope to break new ground by producing commercial quantities.”
The $15.5 million project will receive grant assistance from the California Integrated Waste Management Board, the California Air Resources Board and the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
