Virginia Landfills 1 Million Fewer Tons in 2007

For 2007, Virginia reports having landfilled 16 million tons of solid waste, roughly a 6 percent decrease from the 17 million tons of solid waste disposed of in 2006. According to a report by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the amount of solid waste imported in the state also decreased 2 percent to 7.1 million tons in 2007.

Landfill capacity has subsequently increased to 17.7 years from 17.2 years, according to the report.
