Deadline looms for Ohio landfill to address environmental concerns
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) has given a Dec. 15 deadline to a construction and demolition debris landfill to address concerns found during a September inspection. The OEPA filed a letter with Sharpsville, Pa.-based Total Waste Logistics Inc., the company that oversees the landfill located in Negley, Ohio., addressing the seven concerns, which include possible problems with the landfill’s leachate collection system, sediment and erosion controls and runoff, according to an article in The Morning Journal. The inspections also found that the landfill’s stormwater prevention plan, implemented in July 2000, was not currently being followed.
According to the paper, the OPEA says that stabilization of the landfill must be completed by the spring of 2006.
