EPA Awards Grants Through Methane to Markets Partnership
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced it will award up to $7 million in international grants through its Methane to Markets partnership, an initiative to reduce global methane emissions by promoting capture-and-use projects, including projects at landfills.
The agency will award as many as 40 grants ranging from $100,000 to $700,000 each. Countries must submit project proposals to the EPA no later than March 5, 2009.
Countries involved in the partnership include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Thailand, Ukraine and Vietnam. The partnership also could include developing countries or countries with economies in transition if they fulfill certain application requirements.
