EPA requires new standards for category of solid waste incinerators

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Washington, has issued new standards for “other solid waste incinerators” (OSWI) to help reduce air pollutants. According to an EPA press release, the new standards will reduce approximately 1,900 tons per year of air pollution from an estimated 248 OSWI incinerators, which consist of very small municipal waste combustion units and institutional waste incineration units. OSWI units are the last category of waste incinerators that requires Clean Air Act regulation, the EPA says.
