Covanta Holding Corp., Fairfield, N.J., has announced the $61 million purchase of two of EnergyAnswers waste-to-energy facilities in Massachusetts. In addition to the facilities in Springfield and Pittsfield, Mass., Covanta also receives a landfill, two transfer stations, a transportation and small collections business, and a wood and yard waste recycling operation.

“This acquisition fits nicely with our core strengths, and will expand our network of energy-from-waste facilities and management assets in the Northeast, strategically positioning us to better serve markets in this region,” said Anthony Orlando, CEO of Covanta, in a press release.
