Chicago Issues RFQs for Lease of MRRFs

The city of Chicago has issued a request for qualifications for firms interested in leasing the city’s three material recovery and recycling facilities (MRRF). This request is the first step in leasing the MRRFs, and is comparable to the process the city used to lease the Chicago Skyway in 2005 and the parking passages beneath Grant and Milenium parks in 2006.

The MRRFs reportedly receive, process and transfer 75 percent of the residential solid waste collected by the city’s Department of Streets and Sanitation. A competitive bidding process will decide which firm is most qualified to operate the facilities and pay the concession price.
