This position is technical work supervising a major function of the Solid Waste Division. Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day field operations of the landfill that accepts 2,500 TPD. Supervises and coordinates landfill staff that provides on-demand disposal service for 130,000 residential units and 700 customers, six days a week. Assists the Solid Waste Director and Solid Waste Operations Manager in supervising activities and monitoring performance of vendors. Monitors and supervises the performance of Landfill Construction Lead Operators, Landfill Operators, and Landfill Environmental Compliance Workers. Supervises staff through training, coaching, and communication. Knowledge of applicable State, Federal, and Local laws pertaining to landfill operations. Knowledge of heavy equipment and earth mowing machines. Knowledge of engineering as it relates to soils, drainage and construction. Knowledge of survey techniques (i.e.: grades and elevations). Knowledge of the present laws and ordinances relating to solid waste disposal, safety and landfill operations. Knowledge of Computer-Aided Earthmoving Systems or GPS machine control systems. Must understand, interpret, and implement information produced by GPS machine control systems (Computerized Earthmoving or other GPS Machine Control System). Requires: Graduate of an accredited two (2) year college/university and have a minimum of six (6) years solid waste management experience (preferably landfills) with waste industry knowledge of best management practices and continuous improvement techniques, including knowledge of landfill equipment function, maintenance, and productivity. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of employment. Prefer applicants have a four (4) year degree in Civil Engineering or Business or a related field. Prefer applicants have University of Florida TREEO Center certifications-Solid Waste/Safety.
