RECRUITMENT DATES March 26, 2007 – April 20, 2007. First review of application material will occur on April 9, 2007.

SALARY $53,602 - $79,914 annualized.

EXPERIENCE Requires an associate’s degree and at least three years of supervisory and administrative experience in a solid waste collection, disposal, or regulatory enforcement operation. Strong writing and interpersonal skills are essential. Your education and experience that meet these requirements must be clearly, specifically, and adequately described in your resume and/or cover letter. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

DUTIES Manages a diverse staff of field and office employees, and a collection region, solid waste transfer station, or landfill. Depending on the assignment, responsibilities may include providing timely and efficient solid waste service delivery; evaluating collection routes and operating costs; promoting environmentally-sound solid waste activities, including recycling, through education and enforcement; and monitoring long-haul solid waste servicing contracts. Works closely with other departments, agencies, and the City Council to resolve service, regulatory, and enforcement concerns. Attends forums and meetings with staff and citizen groups. Writes reports; Customer service and interaction with employees and unions is considerable. Currently there is one vacancy in the Public Works Department. Vacancies are anticipated over the life of this eligible-to-hire list.

ALSO REQUIRED Some positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.

EVALUATION Based on resume and cover letter. In your cover letter or resume, please describe your supervisory experience, and experience managing a solid waste collection operation, transfer station, or landfill. Specify the solid waste tonnage per day, size of operation, and the number of employees and waste collection trucks you managed.
