The consolidated government of the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge is looking for a strong leader to fill the position of Purchasing Director. With a growing population of more than 400,000, Baton Rouge represents the best of Louisiana’s vibrant culture. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, strong business or governmental purchasing experience including property control and accountability, and a passion for delivering high quality service to the citizens of Baton Rouge. In this area of growing economic development, the Purchasing Director reports directly to Mayor-President Melvin L. “Kip” Holden, and works in close cooperation with the twelve members of the Metropolitan Council as well as other City/Parish Departments.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
The Purchasing Director’s responsibilities include directing a centralized purchasing program designed to supply large quantities of a wide variety of supplies, materials and equipment to city and parish agencies and departments. The staff of 13 review purchase contracts of over $140 million.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, accounting or a related field and (2) Four years experience in contract administration, contract writing, business law, contract law and negotiating including at least two years experience supervising procurement activities of a governmental or private purchasing department.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in a public agency, knowledge of Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) rules and regulations, Certified Public Purchasing Officers (CPPO) or Certified Purchasing Managers (CPM), including success with goal oriented programs to increase diversity throughout our government.

SALARY
$56,718 to $78,511 annually (depending on qualifications).
